As long as I made it, yes. Just email me with the details and a picture of any repairs needed. To help ensure a new piece fits, I will re-size it once for free within 30 days of purchase.

Except in rare circumstances I don't accept refunds. In the case of an error on my part I will either repair or replace the item at my discretion. Any piece may be resized for free within 30 days of purchase. After that there is a $10 fee which covers 1/2", and any lengthening beyond that will be charged per inch (shortening any piece does not incur extra cost). Pieces may be exchanged one time for a similarly-priced piece, or the same piece in different metals.

Nearly all of my jewelry is made to order already, so it’s not a problem for me to take special requests. Please contact me before purchasing anything to verify that I have the materials you want in stock, and that they will work structurally. As long as you’re looking for a listed design in different colors/metals there is no extra cost for the piece. The easiest way by far, especially if you own a lot of maille or other metal jewelry, is to use a rock tumbler with 2 lbs of pin-free stainless steel shot. These items will set you back about $100 initially, but their speed and thoroughness are unmatched in the convenience they offer. No harsh chemicals, rouges or messy grits are used either, and the only consumables are water and dish soap (the original blue Dawn is widely recommended). The Lortone 3A is an excellent entry level tumbler, and can restore a mirror shine to your jewelry in less than an hour. It's a small unit and can be place on a shelf in a closed closet to minimize any noise. Be careful with plated and anodized metals in a tumber as the color can wear off, and avoid tumbling soft or brittle stones and glass. If you prefer not to use a tumber, simply work a good lather of mild hand soap into the piece with your hands and rinse. The piece can be stripped completely with Brasso or TarnX or similar tarnish remover. Dilute it with water, especially if your piece contains stainless steel, and dunk the piece in, shaking it around some and removing it promptly. Pieces with coated metals like niobium can still be stripped, but use 1 part stripper to 4 parts water. Use a soft brush on the piece rather than dunking, and rinse the piece as you clean.

Measure your wrist or neck closely but not tight. Most of my bracelets drape close to the skin, so add .25” to .5” to your wrist measurement depending on how loose you would like it. If you are between sizes order on the larger side.

Maille is strong, and heavy bracelets in hard metals can be nearly indestructible. Even finer pieces are strong for their size. Because the rings aren’t fused closed however, it has natural weaknesses. Excessive twisting or bending can open one or many rings, and too much pulling force can break a piece in two. This can sometimes be easily fixed, but some weaves can only be started over at the break point. AR, material, and weave determine a piece’s strength, and I consider a weave’s inherent strengths and weaknesses in my designs.

It all starts with wire on a spool. I wrap the wire around a specifically sized mandrel, creating spring-like coils. Using a miniature circular saw blade I cut the coils into rings and polish them in a rock tumbler. Rings are then linked together in a weave using pliers to create chains and sheets. There are over 800 weaves and variants, many of which only work in a narrow range of specific ring sizes. A ring’s “aspect ratio”, or the ratio of the wire diameter to the ring’s inner diameter, determines whether or not it can be used for the weave in question. Some weaves like Jens Pind Linkage have an extremely narrow range of AR that will work. Others like Euro 4 can theoretically be woven in any AR as long as the rings will fit through each other. I have paid detailed attention to the exact size of the rings I use in my jewelry. They are chosen because they highlight the natural visual and tactile beauty of a weave. Save for neoprene and anodized aluminum I make all of my own rings and clasps, leaving a personal touch on every part of the piece.

Maille is just like anything else; you get what you pay for. I charge high prices because I painstakingly ensure the highest quality in materials, technique and design. I am a one-man operation and every facet of my jewelry is handmade, from rings to clasps to ear wires. The only materials I don't make myself are anodized aluminum, split key-rings and neoprene.

If you are unsure about how you will react to copper, please order a test bracelet. This is a simple Half Persian 4 chain made in all the metals that could cause a reaction. The cost of this is $30 which will be refunded or credited to your order upon return of the bracelet.

Nearly all sterling silver is alloyed with copper (7.5%) and tarnishes as a consequence. Argentium silver has also been alloyed with germanium, giving it anti-tarnishing properties among others. Broadly speaking it is the weaving of (usually) metal rings to create a form. Maille has been used throughout the world for millennia, and has historically often been used as armor, but the modern world - including cutting edge science - has started to embrace it. In 2007 the university of Illinois unveiled maille that used rings only 400 microns in diameter. They envision a technological breakthrough of smart textiles, using maille as a flexible conductor of electricity! ref: http://www.news.uiuc.edu/NEWS/07/0328chainmail.html An increasing number of hobbyists and artists are incorporating maille into their creations as well. It’s something that can be made with materials found in your garage, and it affords seemingly unlimited styles of creativity. It appeals to people from all walks of life, and often their other interests are reflected in their creations. You’ll see historical pieces and jewelry for sure, but elaborate sculptures and full articles of clothing can also be found among many other unique pieces. Maillers like to experiment, and there are few limits to what may be called chainmaille. There are vast resources for those interested in trying maille for themselves, all within a couple mouse clicks. Be careful if you try it - you may find it quickly becoming an obsession!

White gold is usually plated with this to enhance its whiteness. Like all plating it eventually wears through and must be restored from time to time. Because of my penchant for mixing metals, I find white gold to be impractical and an unnecessary hassle. Instead I use TruPd(R) palladium as a superior substitute. It is naturally white so rhodium plating is unnecessary. It is also a third of the cost of 18k gold, 95% pure, and less likely to provoke allergies. Please remember that precious “white” metals are actually varying shades of grey. If you want a true white sterling silver is the best way to go.

Because of the potential for allergies I want to give you the option of what touches your sensitive ears. I generally offer two choices; a matching metal or niobium. Matching metals include copper, bronze, yellow brass, stainless steel, and argentium sterling. Of these, steel and sterling are the least likely to provoke allergies, but can still affect highly sensitive people. In consideration of this I offer hypo-allergenic niobium ear wires as a substitute for no extra charge. In pieces where copper alloys dominate, it will be the raw (un-anodized) dark grey wire. In pieces with color it will be anodized to compliment or match

Metals are much like many other materials, in that people react differently to them. Nickel and copper can cause skin discoloration, rashes, and sometimes more severe symptoms. Most of the time these metals don’t affect us - your pocket change for example is loaded with nickel and copper. Problems arise usually because these metals are in constant contact with sensitive skin, like the ears and neck. Some people may never have a metal reaction in their life, whereas others may have always been dangerously allergic. Your history and awareness of your body’s messages are your best guides, but not guarantees. Sometimes people can develop an allergy after long and repeated exposure, sensitizing them to future contact. Sensitization has also been documented in cases of repeated exposure to some species of wood and bee stings as well. To minimize the potential for allergic reactions I take precautions in my designs. All earrings ordered through my site have hypoallergenic titanium ear wires and I use nickel silver sparingly in necklaces, and usually in the lower neckline. If your earrings were purchased in a retail store they may have copper, bronze, yellow brass, steel, or titanium wires.
