| Overall Impressions This is a pretty AR sensitive weave, and the barbs need to sit tightly together for them to hold the barbed look. It's still very flexible though when thought of as a series of units, rather than continuous chain. I think it's a great weave for beginners looking to try something more challenging. I have a full tutorial for this weave on the M.A.I.L. website. Manipulating the weave There are three sizes of rings. The best AR's are: large connector rings: 5.2 small connector rings: 4.9 barb rings: 5.2 -So close in size, the small and barb rings are heavily interdependent. You usually can't change the size of one without doing the same on the other. This can be dealt with by making a mandrel for the barbs. Just wrap tape around the small ring mandrel a few times, and adjust as needed. It may take a couple tries and some wasted wire, so you might want to test it before using any precious metals. -Almost as thick as it is wide, There's probably a limit to how large this can be made and still worn comfortably. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ large: 16g .334"ID (5/16"M) small: 18g .237"ID (7/32"M) barbs: 18g .243"ID (1/4"M) stainless steel and copper -Holds its shape very well _____________________________________________________________________________________________ large: 20g .167"ID (9/64"M) small: 22g .116"ID (1/8"M) barbs: 22g .133"ID (17/128"M) stainless steel, sterling silver -Stable, but small rings need to be a little bit larger and barbs a little smaller for the best effect. -Great size for earrings _____________________________________________________________________________________________ |
